Naturally extracted tobacco is not a new vaping term, but it is one that often confuses people. You’ll often see it on websites or on the side of e-liquid bottles in its abbreviated forms ‘NET’ or N.E.T’. If you enjoy tobacco e-liquid, then it’s an important term to understand as the difference between a juice that contains NET and one that doesn’t can be massive.
At Red Vape we’ve been using naturally extracted tobacco in all our tobacco e-liquids since we were founded in 2016. We are one of only a small number of e-liquid manufacturers around the world to exclusively use only NET as we believe it’s the only way to produce authentic tobacco juices.
What is Naturally Extracted Tobacco?
The term ‘naturally extracted tobacco’ actually refers to the process used to isolate the tobacco flavour from the tobacco leaf. Several methods are used to achieve this. At Red Vape, we use a procedure known as proprietary cold maceration.
The cold maceration technique is the slowest and most expensive method available, but it gives the best results. The flavours achieved through this process are the closest to the original tobacco essence with the delicate nuances of each tobacco variety carefully preserved.
The more popular alternative uses heat to extract the tobacco flavour. This is a far quicker and lower-cost method, but the introduction of heat can mean that the subtle undertones in the flavour profile are lost.
Cold maceration is also used to produce certain varieties of wine, with Burgundy being the best-known example. Expert winemakers believe the process creates a more vibrant and deep flavour in their final product.
When using the cold maceration extraction process, it’s important only to select the mature tobacco leaves from the plant. The mature leaves produce the perfect, fuller tobacco flavour we’re looking for in our finished tobacco e-liquids.
What Are The Alternatives to Naturally Extracted Tobacco
Creating tobacco e-liquids using naturally extracted tobacco that is obtained from the cold maceration process is a slow, labour-intensive and costly process. This is exactly the reason why the vast majority of e-liquid manufacturers use alternative methods to flavour their products.
As we’ve mentioned above, a maceration process that uses heat can also produce naturally extracted tobacco. This is both quicker and cheaper. However, the final flavours are not as refined as those produced using the cold technique. When vaping, you may notice a bitterness that taints the flavour and can ruin the e-liquid.
By far the most common method is to use synthetic, laboratory-produced tobacco flavourings. Artificial flavourings are used in the vast majority of e-liquids, tobacco or otherwise, as they offer a simple, low-cost solution for e-liquid manufacturers. While these flavourings may come close to the original, they don’t capture the true essence and miss the subtle nuances that natural flavourings provide.
Why Choose Naturally Extracted Tobacco E-Liquids
People choose their e-liquids for lots of different reasons. Some people like to keep trying new flavours; others are very focused on price. A lot of vapers pick one juice and stick with it religiously. If you’re the type of vaper who wants a quality product and flavour rather than price is your top priority then naturally extracted tobacco e-liquids are for you. They offer a rich, full flavour that simply can’t be recreated by artificial flavourings.
